aiming high holiday programme for young people with Disabilities

In August 2009, extratime and Sussex Central YMCA launched their new programme for young people with disabilities, funded through the Children and Young People's Trust, with money from Aiming High for Disabled Children.

After much planning, recruitment and training our staff teams welcomed the young people at our two centres - The Y Centre in Hove and The Crew Club in Whitehawk - both mainstream youth centres which are really well resourced, offering the young people a completely new experience outside of the special schools that they were used to!

The exciting programme of activities for 11 -19 year olds includes trampolining, archery, arts and crafts, cooking, DJing, film making and writing and recording their own CD's! We are also able to go on trips out; the cinema and bowling at the Marina a weekly event. Thanks to Adventure Unlimited, we are also able to have the use of the climbing wall which is fantastic for everyone including our wheelchair users! A completely new experience for them that is very well received!

The programme runs during all the school holidays except Christmas and booking forms are available from the extratime office on 01273 689687.
