Transition - from 11years old

If your child has a disability and is already attending one of our play schemes then we will contact you to discuss the possible transition into our youth schemes.

Initially, we would recommend that both you and your child/ren visit one of the youth schemes so that you can get a real understanding of what we do. This gives you the opportunity to meet some of the staff and chat to them, and the existing young people. Once you and your child/ren are comfortable then we will personalise a transition plan to meet all of your child’s needs ensuring that the transition into the youth venue is a smooth and stress free as possible, as we understand that this type of change can be challenging for all involved.

As we know your child from the play schemes and/or after school clubs, we have a good existing knowledge of them which we will transfer into the youth venues. We do this by the supervisor (or member of staff) from the allocated youth scheme carrying out observations at the play venue so that they can gain a good working knowledge of your child. The allocated member of staff will work alongisde play staff gradually building up to directly supporting them in the play setting - this is done at a pace that is appropriate for all involved, and to ensure we meet the needs of the individual child. It also means that there is someone at the youth venue on your child’s first day, that they recognise. If the need arises, we will also have the child’s key worker from play, to come with your child to support them in their first few sessions in youth, to again, ensure fluidity in this process.
