Access Project

Access Project 2010/11

‘A partnership between Extratime and Sussex Central YMCA to support children and young people with additional needs to access mainstream out of school activities.’

The key aim of the project was to increase the number of children and young people with disabilities accessing out of school provision at their school and in their communities, providing a programme of positive out of school activities for a group of children and young people who often fall through the net.

Most schools and activity providers really embraced the project and communicated well with us, welcoming the opportunity to get some support around including these children and young people. The activity and school staff gained confidence and skills in working with children and young people with disabilities out side of the classroom.

All the children and young people attended at least one mainstream activity with all fully integrated into mainstream provision and not requiring on-going support by the support workers, by the end of the programme.

Due to funding, this project is no longer up and running, but we are hoping to secure future funds in order for the project to resume.
